PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a newer technology gaining traction in fashion jewelry. Unlike traditional electroplating, PVD bonds at a molecular level, creating an extremely durable finish that resists scratching and fading. While PVD costs 30-50% more than traditional plating, it offers 5-10x longer wear life, making it attractive for premium fashion jewelry lines.

When evaluating a manufacturer's plating quality, request salt spray test results — industry standard is 24-48 hours for fashion jewelry. Ask about their pre-treatment process, as proper cleaning and activation of the base metal surface is crucial for plating adhesion.
